muno
Privacy Policy
Last updated 23 August 2026
muno is a personal vocabulary app. You collect words, and muno turns them into cards with a translation, pronunciation and audio. This page explains what data that involves, who processes it, and what you can ask us to do with it.
Who we are
muno is operated by Heorhii Hakhokidze, a sole proprietor registered in Poland, at Pułaskiego 19, 40-276 Katowice, Poland.
For the purposes of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), we are the data controller for the personal data described below.
For any privacy question or request, write to jgahokidze@gmail.com.
What we collect
We collect only what the app needs in order to work. We do not run advertising, we do not sell data, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
Email addressaccount
- Why we have it
- To create your account, sign you in, and let you reach the same word collection from another device.
- Legal basis
- Performance of a contract, GDPR Art. 6(1)(b).
- Note
- If you sign in with Apple or Google, your address comes to us from them. Apple lets you hide it: then we receive an anonymised Apple relay address instead of your real one, and we never see the real one.
Nameaccount · optional
- What this is
- If you sign in with Apple or Google and share your name, it is stored on your account profile; Google may also include a link to your profile picture. The app works exactly the same without either.
- Legal basis
- Performance of a contract, GDPR Art. 6(1)(b).
Account identifieraccount
- Why we have it
- A random identifier that links your cards and folders to you. It is not derived from anything about you.
- Legal basis
- Performance of a contract, GDPR Art. 6(1)(b).
The words you savecontent
- What this is
- The words and phrases you add, their translations, your folder names, your progress on each card, and the days you practised — what the app shows as your streak.
- Why we have it
- This is the product. Your collection is stored so it persists between sessions and devices.
- Legal basis
- Performance of a contract, GDPR Art. 6(1)(b).
App settingspreferences
- Why we have it
- The language you are learning, the language you want translations shown in, your level, and small choices like the emoji you picked as an avatar — so cards are generated correctly and the app looks the same on your next device.
- Legal basis
- Performance of a contract, GDPR Art. 6(1)(b).
Subscription statusbilling
- What this is
- Whether you have an active muno Unlimited subscription, and when it renews or expires.
- Why we have it
- To unlock the features you paid for.
- Legal basis
- Performance of a contract, GDPR Art. 6(1)(b).
- Note
- Payment is handled entirely by Apple. We never receive or store your card number, billing address or any other payment detail.
Server logstechnical
- What this is
- Standard request logs from our backend, which include an IP address, a timestamp and the request made.
- Why we have it
- To keep the service running, diagnose errors and prevent abuse of the translation and audio functions.
- Legal basis
- Legitimate interest, GDPR Art. 6(1)(f).
What happens when you add a word
This is the one part of muno worth reading closely, because it involves sending text off our own servers.
When you save a new word, muno needs to produce a translation and spoken audio for it. To do that, the word itself is sent to Google, which returns the translation and the audio. Only the word or phrase and the two languages involved are sent. Your email address, your account identifier and the rest of your collection are not sent.
Generated cards are cached in a shared dictionary so that the same word does not have to be generated twice. That cache holds words, not people: it contains no link to the account that first requested the word.
Who processes your data
We use a small number of service providers. They act as processors on our behalf and may only use the data to provide their service to us.
Supabase
Database, file storage, authentication and backend functions. This is where your account and your word collection live.
Region: Central EU, Frankfurt (eu-central-1) · Provider based in the United States
Google Cloud (Gemini API and Text-to-Speech)
Generates the translation, transcription and pronunciation audio for the words you save. Receives the word only.
United States and other Google regions
Apple
Sign in with Apple, App Store distribution, and all subscription payments and refunds.
Apple's own privacy policy applies to your Apple Account
Google (Sign in with Google)
If you choose to sign in with Google, Google confirms who you are and passes us your email address and name. Your Google Account itself stays with Google.
Google's own privacy policy applies to your Google Account
RevenueCat
Verifies your App Store purchase receipt and tells the app whether your subscription is active. Receives your account identifier, the receipt and your subscription status — never any payment details.
United States
Where your data is stored
Your account and word collection are stored in our Supabase project in the Central EU (Frankfurt) region, inside the European Union.
Some of the providers above are based in the United States, so certain processing takes place outside the European Economic Area. Those transfers rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, or on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework where the provider is certified under it.
How long we keep it
- Your account and word collection: for as long as your account exists. You can delete your account yourself at any moment, in the app — Settings → Account → Delete account — and everything is removed at once; or ask us and we will do it.
- Server logs: a short rolling window, never longer than 30 days, after which they are discarded.
- The shared word cache: kept indefinitely, because it is not personal data and is not linked to any account.
- Purchase records: Apple retains transaction records under its own terms and its own retention periods, which we do not control.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask us to:
- tell you what data we hold about you, and give you a copy of it,
- correct anything that is wrong,
- delete your account and everything in it,
- restrict or object to a particular use of your data,
- export your data in a portable format,
- withdraw any consent you have given, at any time.
The fastest way to delete your account is inside the app itself — Settings → Account → Delete account — which removes your account and everything in it immediately, with no email needed.
For everything else, write to jgahokidze@gmail.com and we will respond within one month, as the GDPR requires. We will not charge you and we will not ask you to justify the request.
If you are unhappy with how we handled your request, you can complain to the Polish supervisory authority, the President of the Personal Data Protection Office (Prezes Urzędu Ochrony Danych Osobowych), ul. Stawki 2, 00-193 Warsaw, Poland, or to the data protection authority in your own country.
What muno is — and is not
muno is a tool for collecting and practising your own vocabulary. It is not a language course and does not provide professional teaching, translation or educational services. The automatic translations, transcriptions, examples and ready-made decks are generated or curated aids that support your own learning: they are provided as is, without a guarantee of accuracy or completeness, and are not a substitute for a course, a dictionary or professional translation.
Children
muno is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under that age. If you believe a child has created an account, write to us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change how muno handles data, we will update this page and change the date at the top. If a change materially affects your rights, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect.
